00We're going to be going over some breaking news on what Anthropic just did with their context window because previously it was at 200,000. It has literally 5x into a 1 million context window and I'm going to talk about what that means for builders like you and me in this video. Honestly, I never saw this coming and we were always complaining about the context window filling up and with GPT-4 having a 1 million context window, we're wondering when Anthropic was going to pull the trigger. We know Opus models are already really good, but now with the 1 million context window, I'm going to talk about what that means for anyone that is building with AI agents and looking for more agentic workflows. So, I'm going to break it down and why this actually
45matters and how you could take advantage of this right now. So, Anthropic just announced the 1 million token context window that is generally available for Opus 4 6 and Sonnet 4 Sonnet 4 6. Here's the part that caught me off guard is that there is no price premium, no upgrades, no extra money you need to give them. It's ready to go. So, I'm going to explain what that means for a lot of people that are going to gloss over this and maybe you don't really care. This changes everything. So, what is a context window and why does this even matter? If you look up and go to Google and type in context rot, there's a really good article that's going to rank number one. You're going to click on it and read it. And that's going to give you a great idea on why context windows matter and why it's important to
31be able to have it as optimized as possible. So, think of it as like your AI's short-term memory. Everything you put into the conversation, every file, every piece of code, every document, that all sits in the context window. So, the bigger the window, the more stuff the AI or LLM can hold in its head at one time. At 1 million tokens is roughly 750,000 words. That's like 10 full novels. Like if you were to take basically all of the Harry Potter books and distill it down into LLM, you wield out a full on conversation of all of the context without forgetting anything. This is basically an entire code base for serious applications or thousands of pages of legal contracts all sitting in
16Claude's brain at one time. Here's the thing that really makes this important is it doesn't forget what I read on one page. It has Anthropic's accuracy score for retrieving information across that full million token window is 78% on something called MRC RV2. That's the highest among any frontier model at that big of a context length. So it's not just a big context window, it's actually good at using the space. Real quick, before we keep going, if you're watching this and you want to actually build with some of these tools, not just watch videos about them, then you're going to want to check out our community down below Shipping School. We have a full Claude code course, a full open Claude course, and four live bootcamps every
03single week where we actually help you get set up from scratch. Like actually set this thing up, not just watch a tutorial and figure it out by yourself. And we also provide one-on-one coaching so you could book a call with me, we could share screens, and I can help you get Claude code or open Claude running on your machine. That's it, no fluff. I built this community because watching YouTube's only gets you so far. We launched it just 3 days ago and we have over 55 members. You need people around you who are actually building, people who hold you accountable, and coaches who can help you when you get stuck. I'll put the link in the description down below. Get in now before the price goes up. Now before this announcement, if you wanted to use more than 200,000 tokens of context with Claude, Anthropic was charging you double, like a 100%
51surcharge. So if you're running long coding sessions or feeding huge documents or running AI agents like I am 24/7 that need to actually remember a ton of stuff, you were paying twice the price for anything over 200,000 tokens. That can be brutal for people who are actually starting out. We don't have a ton of money to put up front. So, especially if you're a builder that's trying to keep costs down, this is a huge news break. Now, a 900,000 token request costs the exact same per token rate as a 9,000 token request. Same price across the board. That is pretty remarkable. The pricing is pretty straightforward as well. Opus 4.6 is $5 per million input tokens, $25 per
37million output tokens. Sonnet 4.6 is $3.15 for the output. So, it doesn't matter if you're using 10,000 tokens or 900,000 tokens. Now, here's where it gets more interesting for me personally in my setup, and this is why I had to make this video because I run Open Claw, and that's my AI agent system that runs 24/7 on the Mac mini right behind me. But, the thing is, it's all powered by Anthropic models. We got Opus 4.6 as the brain and the coordination model, and all the cron jobs and sub agents are generally handled with Sonnet 4.6. But, they burn through the tokens like crazy. I keep track of my usage through Claude dashboard, and I've never hit the weekly
22usage limit, but I've gotten close 60-70% so I've had to dial down my usage with Open Claw towards the end of the week. I am using it through the subscription. That's kind of a gray area, but I know people who are using it through the API. This is going to also be a cost savings to you. So, basically these agents are searching through the databases we host on Neon and Super memory, and they're reading code, they're checking emails, they're writing scripts, generating all the content pretty much all day. I've got a whole pipeline of agents running from 5:00 a.m. to midnight. The problem before was something called compaction. I ran into this three times yesterday. So, when your agent hits the context limit, it has to summarize everything to free up the space. And then when it summarizes
08it, it loses a lot of the details. So, maybe you're going through something right now where, "Hey, what you told your agent yesterday is forgetting it today, and you're feeling like, is am I going crazy?" So, it loses those details, the important stuff. Like if you're debugging a problem and your agent forgot the error message it found 20 minutes ago, that's a problem. Or it's like writing a script and it forgot the voice pro- profile you loaded at the start of the session. We don't want to be going backwards. We want to go forwards, and this created a lot of stir up amongst the community, and just people building with Open Claw, they're like, "I spent all day building out this pipeline, and the next day it forgot it all." How demoralizing that It's going This is going to fix it. So, I was pulling my hair out over this. I've been
54through it, and I know you've been through it where you feel like these agents have Alzheimer's or some kind of dementia. You'd have an agent doing amazing work for a few hours straight, and then like the compaction hits, and then you lose everything. It just became so frustrating. But, with the 1 million tokens, my agents can now run for hours without hitting that compaction wall. They can hold on to like basically entire day's worth of conversations, tool outputs, file contents, and everything without compacting once. So, no more amnesia, no more dementia, whatever you want to call it. This is a massive deal for anyone trying to run an always-on system. And I want to tell you why this matters even if you're not running a full agent system. Let's talk about coding agents for a minute. Claude
40Code, Cursor, Win Serve, any tool built on Claude's API. Before this, Claude Code would load up your code base, run a bunch of tool calls, build up all this reasoning context, and then boom, your compaction kicks in. Yay! Claude summarizes your conversation to free up some space and loses the nuances. It forgets the edge cases. It drops the thread on the multi-file dependencies. You're basically debugging in circles, and I know you've been there if you've used Claude Code at all. Now, with 1 million tokens, you can feed an entire repository into Claude Code, and it holds all of it. Every file, every connection between files, every edge case, one window, no chunking, no splitting things up, and no losing cross-file context. Anthropic actually
25shared some real numbers on this as well, because the numbers don't lie. It's good to look into the data and see what is actually happening behind the hood. They said there's been a 15% decrease in compaction events since they rolled this out. Think about that. 15% fewer times your coding agent loses its train of thought. That is a big increase in productivity. One engineer said that I thought it was so good. He said Claude Code can burn 100,000 plus tokens searching DataDog databases and source code, then compaction kicks in, and then the details are lost. You're stuck debugging in circles with 1 million context though. I search, research, aggregate the edge cases, and repurpose the fixes all in one window. That's the
11real world difference right there, especially if you're shipping and building every day with Claude Code. Now, I know some of you are thinking, "Doesn't Gemini already have 1 million tokens? Same thing with OpenAI models?" It does, but Google had that for a while, and here's the thing. First, Google was also charging a premium for long context. Claude's coding performance is significantly better than Gemini. I'm sorry. Stone me if you have to, but Opus 4.6 scored 65.4% on Terminal Bench. That's a coding benchmark. It beats Gemini. So, you're getting the same size context window, but on the better coding model. And now, at the price per token is equal. So, regardless of how much context you use.
57So, it's not just about matching Google, it's about matching them on context size while being better on the output and being better at the thing that most of us actually use, which is for coding. They also bumped the media limits with this release. You can now send 600 images or PDF pages in single request. That's crazy. That is up from 100. That's literally six times more capacity. So, if you're doing any like document analysis or processing visual data or building something that handles a lot of images, that's a pretty big upgrade. So, what does this actually mean for people that are building stuff like you and I? Let me give you some real examples because I think that this is where it's going to click in for you. If you're building with AI, like I am, you know, building out an open claw workflow or some kind of agentic system
44that helps you save time, your agent can now hold its entire work history in memory for an entire session. No more forgetting what happened two hours ago. No more compaction eating into your context. That fundamentally changes the reliable of these agents and the reliable output of these agents. So, if you're a developer using Claude code or you're using cursor or you're using anti-gravity, you can load your entire project into one session. All the files, all the dependencies, all the readme, the tests, everything and Claude can reason across all of it at once. That's the big difference and that's the experience that is different than just like chunking things into sections and trying to compact and remember, but forget all of the details. So,
30basically, if you're are in legal or finance, you can throw thousands of pages of contracts or filings into one session and ask questions about any of it. There's no more splitting documents across multiple conversations. So, if you're building a customer support bot, your bot can now handle an entire product documentation within the context. Every edge case, every FAQ, every troubleshooting guide, and for my Shipping School members, this is huge because a lot of you are building on top of AI and building AI-powered tools right now. Your apps can now process way more data in a single API call. That means simpler code, fewer workarounds, and better results for your users, which
16is the end result. We want the best experience possible for our users. The thing I want to point out is how easy this is to start using. There's no secret commands. There's no nothing. There's no beta beta header required anymore. You're You're actually using this, you don't need to change anything. It just works now. They removed the gates entirely. And for Claude specifically, if you're on a Max plan or team or Enterprise plan, the 1 million tokens is just included. Your sessions automatically use the full context window. You don't have to flip a switch or change the setting or restart your computer or anything. It's just there. I generally think that this is one of the most underrated announcements in AI right now. see too many people talking about it other than the Anthropic.
01Everyone's focused on all the new models and the shiny object syndrome because that's what's cool and that's what's hot right now, but this is actually going to change your workflow and you're going to experience it the moment you step back in and you start building. So, everyone is focused on all the new releases and all the new features, and then I understand that it's hard to stay focused, but that's why I made this video to bring more recognition to what's actually happening in the space and how it's going to impact your workflow, but making existing capabilities cheaper and more accessible, Anthropic is running away with this. That is what actually moves the needle for builders like us. That's what actually lets people ship better products without breaking the bank. So, if you're not using Claude yet, I have no idea what you're waiting for. I don't know where you're at with what you're
48building with. Give Opus or Sonnet a try. You'll have access to much stronger models with this new 1 million context window. Things will just break less. You'll have a better overall building experience. And if you're using it, go test it. Build some stuff. Break some stuff. It'll just be easier, a better experience. Load something big. Feed in your whole code base. Throw the entire repo at it. I don't care. You're going to be surprised on how well it handles it versus before. And if you want to actually learn how to build with AI agents or how to set up systems like Claude code or open claw and how to ship actual real products using these tools, check out Shipping School down below, which just hit 58 members in 5 days. Right now, building all, shipping together. We provide feedback, four
33bootcamp calls a week, and you can work on me work on work with me one-on-one or work on me, whatever. And we can give you some good feedback. So, I'll put the link down below. And if you guys haven't subscribed already, we got four or five or six videos coming at you live every single day. Please subscribe, and we'll see you in the next one. Bye-bye.
